“What was most impressive was the commitment from top to bottom within the organization to skill development… You would frequently see members of the Thunder coaching staff on the ice with the Learn to Play Hockey Program, house league, house select and Tier II travel programs, working with coaches and players to improve the development… Thunder Hockey would be a great HPC program from the Southeast District, they believe in what we are trying to implement with this model, they have the right people already in place and continue to prove that their focus on skill development over the long term is the right one.”

Ray Shero

Executive Vice President and General Manager

Pittsbugh Penguins Hockey Club

National Hockey League

“I have been very impressed with their program and dedication to growing hockey here in the southeast… I have found that the staff they have put together combining former pro, Division I, and junior players is an excellent asset for the development of hockey and skills necessary to improve and grow our game… I have a personal crusade on skill development… they believe in this as much as I do, and have the abilities and foresight to enact it as a plan.”

Danton Cole

Head Coach

University of Alabama, Huntsville

NCAA Division I

“Their elite coaching staff set them apart from most other organizations across the nation… The Thunder Organization understands the commitment to player development which is clearly demonstrated through practice to game ratio and high performance weekends that include positional clinics, power skating instructors, guest speakers, off-ice strength and conditioning consultants, sports psychologists and nutritional experts… Every individual connected with Thunder Hockey is committed to developing not only hockey players but hockey players who know how to behave in public and who are respectful to those around them and to the game of hockey.”

Claude Loiselle

Assistant General Manager

Tampa Bay Lightning Hockey Club

National Hockey League

“For the past four years, my family has been a part of Thunder Hockey. The organization is committed to developing hockey players and young men. In our experience, Thunder has offered great coaching and instruction, solid training, and elite competition. It is an unique program in the Southeast, perhaps the country.”

Ed Lang

President of Business Operations and Alternate Governor

The Thunder AAA Hockey Club provides elite players in the southeast the opportunity to play at the highest level offered within USA Hockey.  If this program was around when I was growing up in Huntsville, I would have been able to live at home for a few more years, train with professional coaches and still play Tier I AAA hockey.    The program provides serious players an opportunity to consistently play against some of the top teams in the nation from Michigan, Minnesota and Illinois, while being able to compete and win games.  What I like best is the focus on skill development because you have to be able to skate, pass and shoot at high speeds with an increased level of intensity if you want to play junior, college and pro.”

"Thunder has provided a path for youth hockey players who wish to push themselves to an upper echelon. Thunder has enabled players from the South to experience the level of competition that is the pinnacle of youth hockey in the US. Thunder enabled many of the Southern youth players to be seen by scouts across the country and this has led to numerous Prep-school scholarships and financial assistance. My personal experience with Thunder is that it has allowed my son to receive a lot of tremendous exposure to scouts from Prep-Schools, USHL, OHL, NAHL, and Colleges across the Midwest. From this exposure it has allowed my son to earn a spot on the USA Hockey National Team Development Program U17 team for 2006-2007, something very difficult for a Southern youth hockey player to achieve without the proper exposure."

Gus Saponari - Thunder Parent

“I want to thank you and congratulate you and Thunder for doing such a great job promoting girls hockey in SAHA. When my girls starting playing back in 2000, SAHA was the only Southeastern affiliate that did not have a girls team at any age level. We started with one Team South team with girls from 10 to 17. Over the years we had some successes and some failures but it appears that you have been able to establish an ongoing program for girls with multiple levels, an accomplishment that I don't think the other affiliates have been able to maintain. In fact, I noticed that CAHA, the home affiliate for the Southeastern Girls Director, did not have any teams represented at the District tournament this past season. Thank you for your efforts so far and good luck in the future.”
